Project Overview
Joanna Amaya was in the early stages of becoming a professional hair stylist, looking to establish her personal brand while still completing her cosmetology program. She needed a visual identity that would help her build a client base, communicate professionalism, and position her brand for future growth into esthetics and advanced beauty services.
Her goal was to start with business cards and a logo she could use across social media, printed material, and booking platforms.
Challenges
From the start, Joanna emphasized that she wanted something classy, chic, and modern—but not cartoonish or flat. She wanted a logo that reflected her personal style and professionalism, while being simple enough to scale across different uses.
Logo Design:
- Simplicity & Elegance: A clean typographic logo was created with balanced letterforms that convey refinement and modernity.
- Minimalism: Limited decoration ensured the logo remained versatile, timeless, and professional.
- Flexibility: The design works equally well in print, on social media profiles, and in future digital applications.
Design Process & Mockups
To help Joanna visualize how her new brand would appear in the real world, I created a series of realistic mockups. These included her logo applied to:
- Business Cards – showing both front and back designs, so she could see how her contact details and logo would look in print.
- Stationery & Social Media Headers – demonstrating consistency across her professional touchpoints.
- Digital Applications – logo examples placed on social media profile previews, showcasing how her brand would appear on platforms like Instagram and Facebook.
These mockups served two purposes:
- Decision-Making Aid – They allowed Joanna to compare different logo variations in context and confidently choose the direction she liked best.
- Professional Vision – By presenting her branding in polished, real-world scenarios, she could see the potential impact of her new identity on her clients and audience.
Impact & Outcome
- Joanna received a clean, minimalist logo that authentically represents her as a stylist.
- A brand board was delivered, ensuring consistent use of fonts and colors across future materials.
- Business cards were produced, giving her a professional tool to hand out to clients and prospects.
- Despite a limited budget, the final design established a polished identity that Joanna could use to launch her brand with confidence.
The mockups streamlined the revision process by reducing guesswork and helping Joanna immediately connect with the design. Instead of only seeing a flat logo on a white background, she experienced her branding as her clients would see it. This ensured she felt confident in the final result and reinforced the professional quality of the work delivered—even within her limited budget.
Conclusion
This project demonstrates how thoughtful, minimalist design can have a big impact for emerging entrepreneurs. By focusing on elegance, flexibility, and professionalism, the branding for Styled by J. Amaya positioned Joanna to stand out in a competitive market and begin building her career as a stylist with a clear, consistent identity.
